The National Bank of Hungary held its key interest rate at 6.50% for the sixth consecutive meeting in March, as inflationary pressures persisted, driven primarily by higher food and services costs. The overnight central bank deposit and collateralized loan rates also remained unchanged at 5.5% and 7.5%, respectively. The decision aligned with market expectations, which have largely ruled out significant rate cuts this year, anticipating just a 25 bps reduction by the end of 2025. Consumer price inflation accelerated to 5.6% in February, the highest since November 2023, while core inflation hit a 14-month high of 6.2%, both well above the central bank’s 3% target.
