Albania’s central bank lowered its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.5% at its July 2 meeting, marking its first rate cut after four consecutive meetings of holding rates steady. The overnight lending and deposit rates were also reduced by 25 bps, to 3.5% and 1.5%, respectively. The move follows a slight easing in headline inflation to 2.2% in May from 2.3% in April, driven by slower price increases in food and beverages, alcohol and tobacco, clothing and footwear, and miscellaneous goods and services. Meanwhile, GDP growth slowed to 3.4% year-on-year in Q1 2025, the weakest pace since Q4 2023.
