L'indice si basa su un sondaggio nazionale di 900 adulti e valuta le prospettive economiche a sei mesi, le prospettive finanziarie personali, la fiducia nelle politiche economiche federali. Una lettura superiore a 50 indica ottimismo, e al di sotto di 50 indica pessimismo.

The RealClearMarkets/TIPP Economic Optimism Index in the US increased by 0.8 points to 46.9 in October 2024, the highest since April 2023, just below market forecasts of 47.2. Sentiment has been on the rise for four consecutive months, though it remains entrenched in negative territory. The Personal Financial Outlook, a measure of how Americans feel about their own finances in the next six months, increased by 0.4 points from its previous reading of 53.2 in September to 53.6 this month. Also, the Six-Month Economic Outlook, which measures how consumers perceive the economy's prospects in the next six months, rose by 2.5 points to 47.3 in October. Conversely, confidence in Federal Economic Policies, a proprietary RCM/TIPP measure of views on the effectiveness of government economic policies, declined from 40.2 in September to 39.7 this month. Optimism among investors improved (55.9 vs 52.9), but it decreased among non-investors (42.3 vs 42.5).
