Una bilancia commerciale positiva indica un surplus commerciale mentre una bilancia commerciale negativa indica un deficit commerciale. Il BOT è una componente importante nel determinare il conto corrente di un paese.

Montenegro’s trade deficit widened to EUR 330 million in May 2025 from EUR 276.5 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. This marked the largest deficit since July 2024 as exports dropped while imports surged. Exports declined by 22.2% year-on-year to EUR 36.3 million, while imports rose by 13.2% to EUR 366 million. Considering January to May of 2025, exports fell by 5.8% compared ot the same period a year earlier to EUR 237.1 million, weighed down by lower sales of manufactured goods classified by material (-43.7%), beverages and tobacco (-33.9%), machinery and transport equipment (31.1%), animal oils and fats (-12.7%), and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-20.5%). Meanwhile, imports increased by 5.7% to EUR 1,672.8 million, primarily driven by increased purchases of beverages and tobacco (12%), chemicals (8.8%), food and live animals (8.3%), and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (4.5%).
